The141st. meeting of Maine Chapter 89 of the NAWCC, was held at the New Meadows Inn, in West Bath, Maine on Saturday, January 19,2002. There was a turnout of 50 members and guests, some of which traveled some distance to attend.

A social hour was well under way by 11:00 am, and many folks had the opportunity to chat one on one, and view the items offered at the Silent Auction and Show & Tell.

At 12:00,Noon, we all enjoyed the Inn’s delicious Seacoast Buffet Lunch.

President Bentley Crosby called the meeting to order, and self introductions were made, then the Secretary’s Report was read by Jim Bryant, Assistant Secretary, on the minutes of the November 17, 2001 (140th), and the December 8th, Executive meeting, as written by Secretary David Stewart, and accepted by the membership, present.

The Treasurer’s Report by Jim Powers was read and accepted. Jim noted that the new stick-on badges should work well, however for this meeting, anyway, the Service Stars were all in white!

President Crosby announced the sad news of the passing of Charlie Gamache and Bill Cassaday, two of our very friendly members. They will certainly be missed!! A moment of silence was held in their Honor. The Chapter Secretary to send respective cards to the families.

The up-coming March 16th Meeting was announced, to be held at John Martin Manor, in Waterville, with Dr. Mark Beever showing us about his interest in the Tower Clock at Cornish, Maine. The Meeting notices will be sent out with ample reservation time.

Under New Business, Bill Eberly spoke on the up-coming May 18th meeting.

We will be honored with the presence of our National President, Doug Cowan, and a program on his Carriage Clocks. This Meeting will have a “Served” lunch, [again at New Meadows Inn at West Bath, Maine,] at $14.00 per person, Chapter 89 will pick up any extra cost, and the Guest Speaker accommodations paid by the chapter as well, motioned and accepted. It was also mentioned that April 2002 marks the THIRTY-THIRD YEAR of the CHAPTER 89 CHARTER.

Director Sam Jones then read the brief LETTER of IMMEDIATE RESIGNATION, delivered to him by DAVID STEWART, our most recent SECRETARY!!  Ern Grover was nominated and unanimously accepted as our New Secretary, Jim Bryant staying in as Assistant. Jim is to roll this transit ion over, ASAP. Bill Eberly, past Secretary, explained some of the duties, as out- lined in the Sec. Manual.  Jim Lea, as well as others, was concerned as to the possibilities of assigning Help in getting out the Chapter Highlights, etc.

The position of Assistant Treasurer was discussed, and Robert Merrill was nominated and unanimously accepted for that position.

With the Show & Tell, Jim Lea showed an absolutely beautiful Pillar & Scroll Clock he has made, using curly maple. According to his accurate comment, one may try turning such Pillars to test their wood working skills! NOT an easy task! Jim makes his clocks, six at a time, but quantity surely is second to his Quality.

Then on to the Silent Auction. A beautiful S.T. Cottage clock, only $120, A Hole Punch for $20.  An Event worth watching!

Dennis Hillman introduced his Apprentice, 13-year old Alec Donos; Alec gave us a few words on how he became interested in Clocks.

[Ken Wiley and Thelma Boutin were winners of the drawing.]

The Meeting was adjourned to the Program, and ERN GROVER first took us for a surprise T.V. Show visit “Made in Maine”, with Jim Bryant and Host Lou McNally, up in a Steeple to wind up a Tower Clock, via a VHS Tape, then we dashed off to Holland to see a Real Old Windmill, Grinding Grain the original way, with Wind Power, and we watched a Dutch Band playing, out in the fresh air!!  ERN had much more to Share, including the Dutch Clocks, Zansee, Zandam, Shops, and much, much more. But, after a lengthy business meeting, Time Ran Out!!  We Hope to see the continuation of ERN’S Holland Trip at another Meeting Soon.

It was a Beautiful Traveling Day, and in recalling memories of what was said and done, the Meeting was a Success,----- but we should tell Cal Morgan that he can throw the card away,----  some-one can remind Cal that his wife’s name is NATALIE !!

And,as Red Skelton used to say in Closing,---God Bless!

Respectfully Submitted,

Jim Bryant,Asst.Sec.
